Attending Mass & COVID-19

The Celebration of Public Masses resumed on May 15th, 2020. Please refer to this page often so you are aware of changes that are being implemented at Precious Blood for the health and safety of our parish community. All changes and procedures we have put in place are in accordance with the guidance we have received from Bishop Burbidge, Governor Ralph Northerum, and Public Health Officials.

The link to sign up for masses is at the bottom of the page. Please be sure to read all information provided before signing up to attend a mass.

Mass Attendance

  • Bishop Burbidge has dispensed all the faithful of the Diocese from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and holy days of obligation during this time until further notice. The dispensation is still in effect until further notice.

  • Parishioners who are in the High-Risk population (Ages 65 and older, or those with pre-existing medical conditions) are encouraged to join us for Mass via our Live Streams at 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM on Sundays.

  • Please stay at home and join us via Live Stream if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, or have been exposed to COVID in the past 14 days

  • We are limited to having 50% of our building’s capacity. We are using Ticket Source to manage sign-ups for Mass. Click the button below to sign up for this weekend's Masses. The Signup will close at 12 noon on Saturday.

  • If you know someone who does not have internet access and would like to attend mass, please ask them to call the office at 540-852-8945 to sign up.

  • There will be a receiving table outside the entrance to the church checking registered names. This is to ensure that we remain at 50% capacity.

  • Everyone who comes to Mass is expected to wear a Facemask (medical or cloth) while they are in the church.  Gloves are recommended, but not required. Hand sanitizer will be provided as supplies allow.

Seating for Mass

  • We have marked the pews in the Sanctuary with occupancy numbers. Most of our pews will allow for 2 -3 people to sit 6 feet apart. Please be respectful of the limit for each pew.

  • We have set up the Parish Hall with chairs that are spaced 6 feet apart. The Parish Hall will be available for the 11:30 and 2 pm Masses only. Please do not move the chairs!

Missalette / Music Issues

  • Per instructions from the Diocese, we have removed all Missalettes and Music Issues from the Pews.

  • You can take a copy of the Missalette from the table in the vestibule for your personal use. They will be available this weekend as you enter the church. If you choose to take one, please take it home and bring it with you when you come to mass. Donations are welcome.

  • We will not be passing the baskets during Mass. We will have the baskets placed in the vestibule so you can leave your offertory donation as you enter or exit the church.

Receiving Communion

  • As you come up for Communion you should remove your gloves,  lower your mask to receive the Body of Christ, consume the host, and replace your mask and gloves.

  • The Precious Blood will not be distributed.. Please know that receiving “communion under the species of bread alone makes it possible to receive all the fruit of the Eucharistic grace.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1390)

  • The Bishop has asked that the Faithful of our Diocese who usually receive Communion on the tongue “ prayerfully consider temporary, reverently, receiving in the hand to help reduce the spread of infection.” You retain the right to choose how you wish to receive communion.

  • Communion will be distributed by the Priest and the Deacon only.

Other Changes to the Mass

  • All Holy Water fonts have been emptied and removed.

  • The Presentation of the Gifts by members of the congregation has been omitted.

  • The Sign of Peace has been omitted.

Additional Cleaning Efforts

  • We will be sanitizing all pews and commonly touched areas of the church, like doors and handles following each Mass.
